HUSKIES PLAY KNIGHTS TIGHT IN 42-21 LOSS
The North Huskies got three first half touchdowns from senior Sean Coane and played Castle to a standstill through halftime but fell off noticeably after the break in a 42-21 regular season loss to the Knights. Coane ran for 155 yards in the game and fellow team captain Cage Street recorded a career high 21 tackles.
FIRST QUARTER
Castle got on the board first after North fumbled on the first play, but the Huskies marched downfield 65 yards on ten plays to knot the score at 7. The key play in the drive came when Coane ran for 8 yards on fourth and two at the Castle 33. Three plays later he scored on a nine yard run.
The Knights scored again on their second possession by converting three third downs on a 74 yard drive to take the lead 14-7. As the game entered the second quarter, they scored again to make it 21-7 and it appeared the Huskies might be overmatched.
OFF TO THE RACES
North took over the ball at the 20 on the ensuing kickoff and Coane again answered the call. Taking the snap in the shot gun formation, he stepped nimbly through the center of the defense behind blocks from Gavin Vaughn and Evan Fehd and then raced toward the right hand sideline. His effort paid off as he broke free from the pack and then sped 80 yards for a touchdown. Nem Gvozdic’s kick made the score 21-14.
Castle responded with a withering 13 play drive that marched 67 yards to pay dirt. The critical play came when the Knights converted a fourth down and seven at the North 27 with a 14 yard pass completion.
Trailing by two scores with five minutes remaining in the half, the Huskies got a 23 yard kick off return from Coane to put the ball at the 44 yard line. Utilizing nearly the entire five minutes, the senior quarterback then put together a drive that featured him running for 18 yards and completing passes for 30 yards. His final carry of the possession was a six yard touchdown run up the middle—again between Vaughn and Fehd—that made the half time score 28-21
SECOND HALF BELONGS TO KNIGHTS
The highlight reel was blank in the second half for North. Their four offensive possessions ended in two punts and two turnovers on downs when they were unable to convert. Castle responded with a ball control offense that drove the Husky defense backwards in a steady retreat. North’s defenders gave up no big plays, but failed to hold on three fourth down conversions that could have stopped drives.
The Huskies lost 42-21.
