FOURTH QUARTER COLLAPSE COSTLY IN 16-14 LOST TO BULLDOGS

Holding a 14-13 lead entering the fourth quarter, the North Huskies committed a battery of costly penalties, allowed multiple quarterback sacks, and effectively handed the game to the Bosse Bulldogs.

Junior Shawn Coane, having already tallied two scores in the game on a 2 yard run and a 36 yard interception return, returned a Bosse punt to the Bulldog 42 with just over ten minutes to play in the game. On their first play from scrimmage, the Huskies were whistled for an illegal procedure penalty. Two plays later, following a short gain by Coane, the Bulldogs chased the quarterback out of the pocket and North was flagged for intentional grounding. Facing third and thirty-five after the penalty, the line allowed a 13 yard sack of the quarterback. By the time Coane punted the ball away, the Huskies were facing fourth and FORTY-EIGHT yards for a first down.

Bosse took over at their 42 and battered the ball into North territory on five straight running plays. The Bulldogs got a favorable matchup in the secondary on second and thirteen from the North 39 with their tight end being covered by a linebacker. The receiver got behind the defense and caught a 30 yard pass that gave them first and goal at the Husky nine. After three running plays failed to gain much yardage, the Bulldogs kicked a field goal to take the lead 16-14 with 1:35 remaining.

After the kickoff, North had the ball at their 37 with 1:30 remaining. A long pass on first down sailed harmlessly out of bounds--twenty yards from the receiver. The pass rush chased the quarterback from the pocket on second down and North incurred another intentional grounding penalty. With the line of scrimmage now at the 20 yard line, senior Austin Curtis narrowly evaded the rush on third down and 27 and managed to gain 9 yards before running out of bounds. Bosse then sacked him for a 10 yard loss on fourth and eighteen.

North's stat line for the fourth quarter was four rushing attempts for -12 yards, 0 of 3 passing, and 35 yards in penalties.
