North Huskies vs Castle Knights - at Bundrant Stadium Oct 5 2018

Castle football team has to forfeit game for using 'limited eligibility' player
Gordon Engelhardt, Evansville Courier & Press Published 3:51 p.m. CT Feb. 7, 2019

Indiana High School Athletic Association assistant commissioner Robert Faulkens confirmed that Castle High School’s football team had to forfeit a game last fall against North for using a “limited eligibility” player.

Faulkens said that usually occurs when a player transfers from one school to another and problems sometimes arise. The player in question, whose identity neither the IHSAA nor Castle would disclose, was only eligible to play for the junior varsity.

“The coach (Doug Hurt) was reprimanded, the team had to forfeit the game and the other school was notified,” Faulkens said on Thursday. “If there are further violations there will be further sanctions.”

As a result, Castle’s 66-21 victory over host North on Oct. 5 now becomes a forfeit victory for the Huskies. The Knights’ final record is now 6-6 instead of 7-5 and North’s final record is 2-8 instead of 1-9. North athletic director Andrew Huff confirmed that Castle forfeited to the Huskies.

Game Recap

EARLY SUCCESS FADES IN WAKE OF SCORING BLITZ BY KNIGHTS

The Huskies looked to be on their way to 'righting the ship' with the score tied at 14 all in the second quarter against Castle Friday night.  The Knights then went on to score 42 unanswered points on their way to a 66-21 blitzing of North.

Castle jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the game, but the Huskies looked to be battling back with a seven play, seventy yard drive.  First sophomore running back Delavion Crenshaw got outside right end and ran for 36 yards to the Castle 24 yard line.  On the next play, quarterback A.J. Wheeler whipped the ball to receiver Seth Seniour for 23 yards to set up first-and-goal.  Big senior defensive end Braylen Neighbors then entered the game to run the "Wildcat" offense and he carried the ball into the end zone for North's first score.

Seniour re-emerged on defense and picked off a pass at the North 30 and angled across the field to return the ball to the Castle 30 yard line.  The Knights were whistled for unsportsmanlike conduct on the end of the play and the Huskies had a first down at the sixteen.  Four plays later, Neighbors re-entered the game to run the "Wildcat" and when sophomore tackle Kyle Draper blew away the end in front of him and junior Alex Smith at tight end took out the linebacker, Neighbors did a nifty quick step around right end end for his second score of the game.  Junior Alex Ozette's point after attempt tied the game at 14 in the second quarter and everything looked rosy in North's future.

Over the next ten minutes of play, the Knights sacked North's quarterback three times to effectively end Husky drives and scored three touchdowns of their own on long scoring plays.  The score was 35-14 at halftime and North never recovered.

The final score of 66-21 marked North's sixteenth consecutive loss to the Knights and the first time in school history that the Huskies have given up 60 or more points in consecutive games..
