PANTHERS BLITZ HUSKIES EARLY IN 62-21 DECISION
For a moment, things looked like they might go North's way in a 62-21 loss to Reitz at the Bowl. On the Panthers' first play from scrimmage, sophomore defensive tackle Gage Sales roared through the line and stripped the football from a Reitz runner. Senior Cole Doniger, a young man who plays 'bigger' on Friday nights than his listed 5'9" 150 lb frame, snatched up the fumble and gave the Huskies the ball at the Reitz 29 yard line. Four plays later, however, a 30 yard field goal attempt hit the upright and North had nothing to show for the opportunity.
Reitz then scored on their next seven possessions and led at halftime 49-0.
Early in the second quarter, the Huskies looked to be finding their way back into the game when they managed to garner a pair of first downs and moved the ball out to midfield. The first half's lone bright spot dimmed considerably when an injury to sophomore running back Tyler Burnett ended his season. The drive stalled on fourth down without their new found spark.
SECOND HALF SUCCESS
Playing against a majority of Reitz' second string and reserve players, the Huskies mounted multiple scoring efforts after the break. Freshman quarterback Ethan Brawdy came in and led the offense down the field on a series of option style running plays. Senior A.J. Wheeler returned to the game in 'the red zone' and threw an 11 yard touchdown pass to Seth Seniour. Barely six minutes later, the success repeated itself with Brawdy driving the offense near the Panther goal line and Wheeler returned to throw a 12 yard touchdown to Seniour as the third period ended.
In the fourth period, North took advantage of a short punt by the Panthers to mount a seven play drive from midfield that ended with Wheeler running the ball in from the five yard line. The 62-21 final score marked the twelfth consecutive loss to Reitz and the longest margin of loss in the streak.
