HUSKIES CONTROLLED BY COLONELS IN 48-7 LOSS
Time of possession and three turnovers led to a 48-7 loss for the green and white at Colonel Stadium on Friday night. North got off to an 0-2 start for the 2018 season when the Huskies managed just 42 plays from offense compared to Henderson County's 62.
After the Colonels jumped out to a 14-0 lead, junior Dylan McKinney finally got to touch the ball for the first time in the game and made the most of it. Taking a handoff up the middle, the fleet footed running back bounced through a hole provided by center Caleb Brown and guard Adam Goebel, twisted away from a linebacker, and then showed that he was the fastest man on the field by outrunning the Colonel secondary en route to an 80 yard touchdown. Kicker Alex Ozete's perfect extra point attempt brought the Huskies back to just a seven point deficit and the North defense began to solidify after that.
Senior tackle Braylen Neighbors batted down not one but two passes at the line of scrimmage in the second quarter and sophomore defensive lineman Gage Sales went on a rampage that saw him participate in four tackles for loss over the game's next 12 minutes of play. The Huskies appeared to have 'weathered the storm' of Henderson's early offensive barrage and were making a game of the contest.
A pair of late first half turnovers gave the ball to the Colonels with short fields ahead of them and they converted both opportunities for touchdowns to bring the score to 28-7 at half. North never recovered and was unable to sustain a drive of its own in the second half. The game finished with a running clock.
The Huskies battle the Memorial Tigers at home Friday night.
