Game Recap

REITZ STEAMROLLS HUSKIES 50-13

Reitz ran past the North Huskies 50-13 last Friday night.  The Panthers ran for 332 yards and generated 21 first downs.  North, by comparison, managed just 49 yards on the ground and tallied just six first downs.  Five times the Husky defense managed to force a third down situation for Reitz, but the Panthers were a perfect four-for-four on fourth down.  Reitz scored touchdowns on all of their five first-half possessions and tallied another score on their opening drive of the second half.  When the Panthers scored on the first play of the final period, the referees elected to play the fourth quarter with a running clock.

For their part, the Huskies managed to take an early lead when senior Caleb Hague made a 'circus catch' on a pass from junior AJ Wheeler at the Reitz 40 yard line.  Hauling the ball in one handed, Hague then juke-stepped a pair of defenders and dashed to the end zone.  Thomas Samuel's kick gave North an early 7-0 lead.

Newcomer junior Kaylen Wilson set up North's second score with an equally amazing catch at the Reitz one yard line.  Running a fly pattern down the left sideline, Wheeler's throw was just short of the mark and Wilson was forced to come back for the ball.  When he did so, a defender got a hand on the ball but not enough to knock it away.  As Wilson fell to the ground, he snagged the ball out of the air and clutched it to his chest for a 34 yard gain and a first down and goal to go.  Wheeler then ran a quarterback sneak behind sophomore Jacob Guest and senior center Jacob Hansen to give North a 13-7 lead at the 2:50 mark in the first quarter.

After those two amazing catches, North managed just one more first down in the game.

The Huskies travel to Castle this coming Friday night--a venue that has not treated North well.  The Huskies are 0-4 at Castle Stadium under Coach Szabo and the Green & White have lost fourteen in a row to the Knights.

North has not beaten Castle since the Sept. 1, 2006 48-20 shellacking at Central Stadium when the Huskies jumped out to a 48-6 halftime lead.  North has not won on the road in Paradise since a Sept. 19, 2003 47-24 victory led by 1st team AP All-State Kendall O'Donnell's 3 touchdowns and 159 yards rushing.
