HUSKIES CLOSE DOWN WIN AGAINST RIVAL BEARS 67-62
Where North had allowed games to slip away in the final quarter during this season, the Huskies closed out the Central Bears in the fourth period by hitting 12 of 13 free throws on their way to a 67-62 win. In a close game in which neither team led by more than four points in the second half, junior Brayden Huebner took the ball straight at the Bears defense by driving into the lane toward the basket repeatedly. Time and again he was fouled by the Bears and went to the line to sink clutch free throws to either break a tie or extend a one point lead. Freshman Bryson Chapman twice showed he is mature beyond his years by toeing the line with the game tied and both times sank a pair of free throws to sustain a narrow North lead.
After three North starters garnered two fouls each in the game's opening four minutes of play, it fell to junior KeaMare Barnes to pick up the scoring slack after the three starters were forced to sit due to their fouls. Barnes responded with 10 points in the next eight minutes of play to keep the Huskies in the ball game. Chapman, averaging six points per game coming into this contest, likewise picked up his offense and produced his average before the first half was over. He went on to finish with his season high of 17 points. Junior Sam McKinney and seniors Alec Vidoni and Josh Neth were called upon for more minutes of play while the starters sat and the trio produced tight defense and grabbed critical rebounds. As a result, a lead that initially zoomed out to eight points when the starters got in foul trouble was able to be contained to just three points at halftime.
