THIRD QUARTER BLITZ PROPELS HUSKIES TO 84-62 VICTORY

With a starting lineup composed entirely of underclassmen, the North Huskies took command of a tight game with a 29 point outburst in the third period on their way to an 84-62 win over Princeton.  Junior Cayden Gelhausen led all scorers in the game with 19 points while junior guards Brayden Huebner and KeMare Barnes added 16 and 15 points respectively.  Gelhausen also had a game high 12 rebounds for the first 'double double' of his varsity career.

The Huskies found themselves trailing by 8 midway through the second period at 22-14 as the Tigers hit 14 of their first 15 free throw attempts.  A suffocating pressure style defense from North had the unfortunate byproduct of putting Princeton at the free throw line frequently in the games opening stanzas.  Down by 8, North then went on to score 15 unanswered points.  The insertion of senior Alex Vidoni in the lineup at center fortified the defense in the paint and forced the Tigers to alter a number of shots.  Those misses were grabbed by Gelhausen and freshman Bryson Chapman and turned into fast break opportunities for Barnes and Huebner.  As a result North led 32-26 at the break.

North came out 'red hot' and hit 12 of 18 third period shots with Gelhausen hitting all four of his attempts for nine points in the quarter.  By the time the period was over, North had built a 61-39 lead.  Junior Kaleb Harris contributed five rebounds in the third quarter alone.  For his part, the freshman Chapman, playing in his first high school game, accumulated an impressive line score: he hit every shot he took from the field (3 for 3), made both of his free throw attempts, and pulled own nine rebounds (including three offensive boards), while playing sterling defense.

North travels to Jeffersonville Friday night and then plays at home again next Saturday against Henderson County.
