DEFENSE POWERS HUSKIES TO SECOND SECTIONAL TITLE IN 5 SEASONS

In a devastating display of team defense, North held their third consecutive sectional opponent to under 40% shooting and less then 50 points on their way to a 63-49 victory in the 4A Sectional Championship game.  North allowed the Harrison Warriors to just three points in the game's crucial second quarter as neither team could find much room to shoot in the first half.  Senior Cameron Gelhausen set the tone for the remainder of the game when he stepped in front of a Warrior pass to begin the third quarter, raced the length of the court, and slammed home a dunk over the top of Harrison's best player.  The Huskies never looked back.

In a game filled with defensive highlights, none shined brighter than the combined efforts of senior Aidan Blackford and sophomore Brayden Huebner to shut down Harrison's leading scorer--he was held to just three points in the game and did not score his first point until late in the third quarter when was already ahead by 14.  Every time that Harrison seemed to find its range, the Huskies found a way to answer.  When a Warrior got open underneath for consecutive baskets to cut the lead to seven, senior Ryan Caddell answered with his patented fade away jumper for two, followed by a deep three pointer to extend the lead back to eleven points.  In the fourth quarter, when Harrison cut the lead to single digits, it fell to Blackford to answer with a breakaway basket for a lay-in.  Blackford scored all 8 of his points in the fourth quarter to essentially seal North's Sectional Title hopes with a steady hand at the free throw line and a pair of steals.

Caddell led all scorers with 18 points and fellow senior Cameron Gelhausen added 12.  The player the Warriors could least match up with, however, was senior Mason Wicks who, despite getting into foul trouble, was able to dominate the paint underneath and garnered 8 points and 6 rebounds while altering Harrison's offensive plans with his presence.

After going from 2005 to 2019 without a victory against the Warriors, the Huskies have now taken four straight games against Harrison dating back to December 2020.
