HUSKIES UPSET #8 RATED PATRIOTS 61-56

Terre Haute North came into the Huskies' gym with a 16-1 record and a top 10 ranking.  They left on the wrong end of a 61-56 score after the Huskies took control of the game in the fourth quarter.  The two teams swapped leads throughout the early and middle portions of the game with the Huskies opening up an 8 point lead in the second quarter before going into halftime trailing 29-26.  The Patriots then opened up a six point lead after the break before seniors Cameron Gelhausen and Ryan Caddell got hot and hit six of their next eight shots combined.  The two clubs entered the final period tied at 43 but from that point the Huskies took a lead that they would not relinquish.

Which is not to say the outcome was in doubt--the Huskies never led by more than five points and the Patriots seemed to answer every basket with one of their own.  Caddell's deep three from well behind the arc gave North a five point lead with 3:35 to play but the Patriots came back with a pair of baskets to cut the lead to just one point.  Senior Matt Bunnell worked to get open under the basket and put in a shot with two minutes to play that returned the Husky lead to three points.

As the game entered the final minute, senior Mason Wicks hit a pair of free throws to give North a five point lead.  When the Patriots came down and attempted to fire up a three point shot, Gelhausen blocked the shot and Caddell came up with the rebound.  North however turned the ball over on the next possession and the Patriots managed to bury a quick three point bucket to cut the lead to two with 28 seconds to play.  Another Husky turnover created a Patriot opportunity but when their shot went errant, Wicks came down with the rebound.  The Patriots fouled him immediately and Wicks went to the line with a chance to put the game out of reach.  Unfortunately, he missed the free throw but managed to get his own rebound.  When fouled again, he went back to the line and hit his first shot putting North up by three with ten seconds to play.  When Wicks' second shot rimmed out, it was Caddell who came up with the big rebound and, when he was quickly fouled, Caddell calmly sank both free throws to give the Huskies their final margin of victory.

Cadell led all scorers with 25 points while Gelhausen added 17 points and eight rebounds.
