REBOUNDS POWER HUSKIES OVER WARRIORS 58-55

Pulling down 16 offensive rebounds and getting multiple 'second chance' baskets, the North Huskies overcame a cold shooting night to beat the Harrison Warriors 58-55.  The victory was the first time North had won a varsity basketball game on Harrison's home court since a double overtime victory in 2004.  It also marked North's third consecutive win against the Warriors dating back to last season's Forest Park Holiday Tournament championship--following an 0-31 streak from '05 thru '20.

The game was nip-and-tuck throughout as neither team could pull away from the other.  The Huskies trailed 49-47 with 3:42 to play when senior Mason Wicks' offensive rebound and 'put-back' bucket tied the game.  North's next trip down the court, senior Aidan Blackford spotted Wicks open near the basket and threaded the needle with a perfect pass to give the Huskies a two point lead with 2:52 to play.  The persistent Warriors, out-manned inside, continued to battle and re-tied the game.  As the clock drained down, it fell to senior Cameron Gelhausen to put North up for-good with a drive to the basket that started near the three point line.  Fouled as he made the lay up, he sank the free throw and put North ahead to stay--despite missing free throws that kept Harrison chances alive in the final minute.  Wicks nailed a pair of free throws to slam the door on the Warriors giving the Huskies a five point lead with under ten seconds to play.

Four Huskies produced double-figures in points:  Blackford and Gelhausen both had 13 and Wicks along with fellow senior Ryan Caddell contributed 12.  Gelhausen recorded another 'double-double' with 10 rebounds.
