HUSKIES 'ZONE OUT' BOWMAN IN 67-59 VICTORY

Trailing by eleven points at half-time, North turned the game around with a zone defense in the third quarter and outscored highly regarded Bowman Academy by 21 points in the second half of a 67-59 victory.  Playing the final game of the Bosse Invitational, the Huskies fell behind early to the athletic Eagles from Gary.  Break away baskets and lay-ups led to the North halftime deficit.

Things changed early in the second half.  Guards Robert West and CJ Hedgepeth each found senior Brock Underwood open along the baseline for multiple baskets in the opening seconds and the Huskies clawed back into the game.  North then sagged back into a zone defense designed to deny inlet passes from Bowman's guards to their big men underneath and the Eagles were forced to change their offense.

Early in the contest, Bowman had hit a pair of three point shots to open up the North defense, but in the second half, they could draw nothing but iron with their long field goal attempts.  As a result, North began to dominate the back boards and dictate the tempo of the game.  North evened the score at 40 with two minutes to play in the third quarter and steadily pulled away from that point forward.  Center Austin Elmore enjoyed his best game of the season in the slowed down pace and was a perfect five-for-five from the field in the final stanza.  He also recorded ten rebounds to go with his team high 20 points.  Underwood led all rebounders with 11 and Hedgepeth and West both recorded five assists each.
