NORTH VS JASPER SCRIMMAGE

North's 2008 Varsity and JayVee Huskies were on the field Friday night, August 15 at Central Stadium.  The event was the annual pre-season scrimmage and the Jasper Wildcats were our guests for the scrimmage.

Complete stats for the event are available here.

North's defense looks to be very strong along the front line.  The Huskies held Jasper's varsity offense to just 60 yards rushing on 21 attempts for a 2.9 average per carry.  Five times the Wildcats were thrown for a loss.

North's Varsity managed 5 touchdowns and 7 first downs in their allotted 37 plays.  Jasper could only muster 2 scores and 5 first downs on their 37 plays.

The Varsity Huskies completed 67% of their passes for 133 yards and two touchdowns.  They ran for 95 yards on 19 carries for a 5.0 avg. per carry and 3 touchdowns.  Senior wide receiver Mitch Parker caught both touchdown receptions from quarterback Cameron Whitler, senior tailback Travis Carlile ran for one score, and unheralded junior transfer Brandon Scott ran for two tallies.  Scott's brilliant 30 yard sprint around left end generated the most excitement on the evening.

For the JayVee's, it was all Huskies.  Limited to 16 plays each, North dominated Jasper.  Sophomore Richard Compton jump-started the first possession with a thrilling 65 yard touchdown run on the JayVees' first play from scrimmage.  On the next series of downs, sophomore quarterback Luke Blankenship hooked up with fellow soph Caleb Kinnaird on a 39 yard scoring toss.  Kinnaird used his speed and a hip fake to slide past the defender and the pass from Blankenship sailed 40 yards through the air and hit the receiver in stride as he crossed the goal line.

On defense, the JayVees stymied Jasper.  The Wildcats were held to just 33 total yards on their 16 plays.

Next Friday night, August 22nd, the Bosse Bulldogs are 'in the house' for the season opener at Central Stadium.
